When is great news good? Fluxwerx receives top honors at Good Design® Awards.

Fluxwerx Notch 1, Profile Mini Frame and Portal families of luminaires have been selected by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture & Design as winners in the Lighting category.

 

Now in its 71st year, Good Design® is one of the world's most prestigious, recognized, and oldest Design Awards programs organized annually by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd. 

 

In 2021, several thousand designers and visionary companies from over 55 countries entered the competition. The jurors reviewed the entries in order to assess not just the aesthetic merit of each entry, but materials selected, the level of craftsmanship, the surface structure, ergonomics, innovation, sustainability, and functionality.

The Winning Products

PORTAL

A reimagination of directional and general area illumination in a single fixture family, Portal offers exceptional comfort and control across multiple architectural environments. Available in two diameters and a range of mounting options spanning the discreet, fully Recessed mud-in to a Semi-recessed form, a Surface mount version and even a Pendant, Portal provides clear continuity for any architectural condition and can be used in all ceiling conditions. Multiple optics and beam options transcend typical point source applications with exceptional uniformity, lower energy densities and maximum visual comfort with efficacies up to 150 lm/w.

PROFILE MINI FRAME

A geometrically synthesized collection of discrete pendant forms composed of two and four foot squares and triangles as well as a 2'x4' rectangular aesthetic. The Frame optics are optimized to correlate with the closed architecture of the closed geometric forms for optimal balance of performance and visual comfort. 

 

With a form only two inches in height, Frame offers exceptional performance for general ambient illumination applications. It is possible to achieve up to 15 ft o.c. spacing pace for aggressive and sustainable, energy efficient design with power densities of under 0.40 W/ft2.

NOTCH 1

 

A linear LED recessed luminaire with a unique hollow aperture design of just 1.5", Notch 1 changes and challenges the industry standard. Delivering an actual slot in the ceiling which can be extruded right to the vertical face of the drywall, Notch adds texture, depth and detail to an otherwise undifferentiated category of products.

 

Notch 1 features a variety of trims and endcaps, which add subtle punctuation of the ceiling plane with very low brightness and high performance, giving the design community an opportunity to use a narrow aperture solution for general area lighting. Grid ceiling options include 15/16′ and 9/16′ flat-T, and 9/16′ tegular options.

 

With the integration of Fluxwerx Anidolic-extraction optics, Notch 1 provides precisely controlled optical symmetric and asymmetric area distributions with no view of the LED point source. Precision-engineered, high transmittance, clear acrylic lenses mix and disperse light, eliminating any visible images of the LED point source - up to 12′ o.c. spacing delivering 31 fc @ 0.39 W/ft2.
